Our house in the Battle of the Bulge

Our holiday cottage, is in Fays, in the vllage of MANHAY. It was built in 1932, by local bricklayers from Burnontige. Originally, this typical house was a small farm for one family. They had one or two cows and a few pigs.

But WWII started, and lasted 5 long difficult years. During December 1944, the Battle of the Bulge took place, and the German army was stopped not far from here in Manhay (there is a stome showing the limit of the frontilne).

The American army arrived here in Fays. The soldiers were sleeping in the old school (just next to our holiday home).

And our little house became the KITCHEN of this American army. One of my neighbours (who passed away in 2019 at the age of 82) told me that he was seven years old at that time. And he came in our house to get food from the soldiers, who were very nice to him.

Really touched by the stories of the inhabitants during the Battle of the Bulge, we have decided to interview the ones who are still alive, and collect their memories.

So in a near future, you'll find their written interviews (and why not videos) on this website !
